Ardha Padmasana

For today’s #colour_collective colour Rose Quartz another yoga-themed illustration:

RoseQuartzCCInitially, I was tripping over the name Rose Quartz in combination with the given lilac-like sample colour (left).

I use many Rose Quartz rocks on the balcony and inside the home.

All these rocks are pinkish, which explains why I found the lilac of the sample colour for Rose Quartz a bit irritating.

However, after some research I discovered that there is a type of Rose Quartz that can have this lilac tone and it is called Lavender Rose Quartz.

The Rose Quartz stone is supposed to support ‘unconditional love’ and have the ability to open the heart’s energy centre.

Whereas Lavender Rose Quartz, with its purple hue, is said to be a little stronger in its protective nature – might just add some to my quartz collection as its colour is very pretty, too.

Next week’s colour for #colour_collective will be announced tomorrow.

The text around the illustration translates to: ‘May all beings in all the worlds be happy’.

So in this sense, wishing all a happy weekend!

Fascination

For last night’s #colour_collective colour Phthalo Blue another beach scene – but at night and around a campfire:

UnderTheStars
This artwork can be purchased as print and more at my Society6 store

Phthalo_BlueUsually, I mix colours using Cyan, Lemon Yellow and Magenta.

This time, I actually had Phthalo Blue available as such.

However, when I looked at what came out of the Phthalo Blue tube, it did not really look like the digital reference. I felt that the contents of the Ultramarine Blue tube resembled the digital reference much more.

Nonetheless, I was sticking to Phthalo Blue and in those few locations where water and pigment gathered together on paper in greater intensity, the digital reference and the watercolour Phthalo Blue I used drew near in likeness.

Next week’s colour for #colour_collective is Duck Egg Green. Hm, let’s see if I’ll manage to create and illustration without ducks or eggs.

Any theme, any medium, anyone. Post together Fri 19:30 GMT+1. Just use the #colour_collective hashtag on Twitter.

TeaRose

Tea Rose is such a delicate and soft colour.

So, originally, I had planned to do a bedtime theme.

You know, a cute room, lovely bed with Tea Rose coloured bed sheets, the kids all comfy on or beside the bed as well as Archie and Medes all snuggled up in the sheets.

But then again, with nature supplying so many magnificent colour combinations at dusk and dawn – including Tea Rose – I could not mentally lock myself  indoors and took the scene outside.

Interestingly, upon completion, it felt indeed like I spent a wonderful day at the beach.

Next week’s colour for #colour_collective is Phthalo Blue.

Tree House

For last Friday’s #colour_collective Chartreuse: Tree House

chartreuseAlthough I felt as (un)comfortable with this yellow-greenish colour Chartreuse as I did with the blueish-grey Payne’s Grey, I was pleasantly surprised by it.

Initially, I felt the colour had something rather artificial about it.

But it also reminded me of the Limoncello filled bottle we had once bought on our trip to Menton, France.

I researched and discovered that it indeed was named after a French liqueur produced by monks.

So I pondered, looked at the colour, and pondered some more.

The main image that kept returning (apart from the liqueur, which, to get it out of my head, I needed to sketch in form of a Chartreuse filled shot glass) was of what would be seen when gazing upward in a forest on a very sunny day.

But not wanting to ‘just’ draw a bunch of leaves and branches I wanted to find a way to incorporate the three kids as well as depth of field.

Slowly the setting came together and although Chartreuse turned out to be quite an adventure, it was one with a happy ending.

Handstand

My first thought upon seeing the colour for last Friday’s #colour collective – Payne’s Grey – was pretty much ‘what a pain!’.

But when I discovered the beauty behind this blueish grey colour, I changed my mind about it. I think this one will become one of my personal favourites – at least for the moment.

Also, during the painting process, I discovered the effect Payne’s Grey has on graphic illustrations.

Had I not already painted over the dog I might have had left the illustration in Payne’s Grey shades only, with touches of black and white and maybe a hint of maximum one colour – maybe red.
