Poppy Flower Field

This evening, I combined #colour_collective ‘s Venetian Red and #pinchpunchpost ‘s White Rabbit:

Today’s illustration comes with a little ‘making of’ clip that I posted onto my Facebook page ‘Babybluesnowflake‘.

As for the creative process

First the Idea
Ideas can be tricky. Sometimes, they can be quite difficult to come across, which is nerve wrecking, tiresome and annoying.

I commonly experience idea voids when I am not at ease or experience too much interference and distraction from life.

To be creative takes a relaxed state of mind.

The antidote to absent ideas
When ideas stay away, sitting down and scribbling nonsense can help.

Searching for ideas on the Internet can also help, but can be somewhat tricky too, as it can be distracting as much as it can be helpful.

Long walks are often the best antidote against inspirational meltdowns.

The too many ideas syndrom
When an idea Tsunami strikes, at one point one needs to just pick and work with one.

At least, get the one idea to a foreseeable completion before pondering another one.

I do like working on multiple projects, but they should not only be happening in my imagination.

There is no point in having innumerable ideas if we don’t act at least upon one!

Work
Blessed are the moments in which an idea, including a clear vision of its end result, strikes my mind in a fraction of a second.

Truth be told, these are rather rare situations.

Usually, I have but a vague idea where I am heading to and need to go with what I’ve got.

Whether the idea came easily or not, perseverance and hard work is what gets you to the final goal (illustration, artwork).

Trial and error
Whether the end result is clear or vague, the path is never carved in stone.

There is a lot of trial and error involved. The good thing is, it carries a high learning potential.

Through trial and error, I am often lead to non-anticipated and awesome effects that completely change the outcome of the original image I had in mind.

Giving into a creative process often leads to a better-than-anticipated outcome.

After all, it’s the mind that is limited, possibilities not.

Let go of control and miracles can happen.

Ok, I believe I’ve rambled on enough for this evening. 😉

Good Night World and the Sweetest of Dreams

Magical Encounter

For this evening’s #colour_collective colour Barn Red:

I was a tiny bit under time pressure for this evening’s #colour_collective with this one.

So, it is not entirely finished, as there are a few things I still will need to even out.

Originally, I planned on using Kyle T. Websters watercolour brushes to make the birch tree custom brushes, but time was too tight.

I am starting to like this simple and flat graphic illustration style and feel it is a nice addition to my more retro styled watercolour illustrations of the three kids.

But, for now, it’s way past my bedtime hours, so:

Good night to all and the sweetest of dreams!
May you have a lovely weekend!

Fun on the Swing

swing_cc_indanthrene
Fun on the Swing: digital art made with Photoshop using Kyle Webster’s watercolour brushes and Belgian comic brush (still am fond of these digital brushes)
In the last weeks, I’ve been busy with my Paradigm Shift paintings and missed out on a couple of #colour_collectives and many a #worldwatercolormonth contribution.

But, I am happy to have made it to tonight’s #colour_collective colour Indanthrene (or Indathrene? or Indothrone? – seen all versions online) Blue with a simple digital contribution and pleased to share it with you.

May you have a wonderful weekend!

Late #colour_collective – Myrtle Green #illo_advent day 11 – At the Fireplace

‘At the Fireplace’ for #colour_collective’s Myrtle Green and #illo_advent: black pigment liner 0.1, mixed media paper made from 90% bamboo fibre and 10% rag, 24cmx32cm, 265g/sqm, Photoshop

Myrtle_Green

Entering the hex code for Myrtle Green into Photoshop is definitely easier than trying to mix the colour with the available ones in my colour palette mainly consisting of Yellow, Cyan and Magenta.

Unlike what I expected, I do like the simplicity of the outcome of this one.

But, this will be my last #colour_collective contribution for 2015.

Every artist needs a break now and then in order to ‘fill the well’ – as Julia Cameron in her book *’The Artist’s Way’ puts it so nicely – so now it is time to fill mine.

And, in case you are still looking for Christmas presents, I’ve just set up a teeny tiny shop at Society6 with currently two of my works: available are prints of my blue/yellow ‘French bulldog‘ painting (acrylic on canvas) and ‘Fascination‘ painting (water-colour on mixed media paper).

Link to the shop: http://www.society6.com/babybluesnowflake

More is to follow in 2016.

Last but not least, a huge big thank you to all my followers and visitors to this blog for viewing, liking, commenting on and sharing my artwork. Your support and encouragement is very much appreciated and I plan to be back with a lot more **’one baby step at a time’.

May you all experience a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

*A highly recommended read!

Under The Silvery Sky

For this evening’s #colour_collective colour Silver, I was inspired by the current silvery sky and the first few snowflakes that silently floated down onto the streets a few days back.

SilverThere is something quite magical about first snow.

I have observed myself and others returning to a childlike state of being when these leight-weighted, celestial dancers manifest from the sky.

Any thoughts that might have been troubling the mind fade away in admiration of these architectural miracles.

In their presence, time seems to stand still and – even if just for a mere moment – much of the ongoing chatter within the mind simply ceases.

Next week’s colour for #colour_collective is yet to be announced.

Eka Pada Pranamasana

For last Friday’s #colour_collective colour Green Gold I was inspired to do a tranquil illustration of a yoga asana.

goldengreenAs I tend to with #colour _collective colours, I contemplated and researched Green Gold, too.

I realised that it happens to be the colour of the wall I face whilst working at the computer, creating illustrations, or writing.

I adore the freshness of this colour as it is uplifting, positive and warm.

Another thing I discovered is that in Aura Soma ‘Green over Gold’ is the 31st bottle and it is named ‘The Fountain’.

According to the bottle description, it is supposed to support ones receptiveness to the wisdom of the heart and to make space for deepest joy to spring from within the depths of the self* – sounds promising.

Next week’s colour for #colour_collective is Rose Quartz, which also sounds promising.

Any theme, any medium, anyone. Post together Fri 19:30 GMT+1.

Wishing all a lovely Saturday evening, a peaceful Sunday and a great start into the week!

Mummy

Monster number four for #HallowDoodle and #inktober today is a Mummy.

Mummy for #HallowDoodle and #inktober
Mummy for #HallowDoodle and #inktober: black pigment liner 0.05, Canson illustration paper BD, Manga, Comics: pure white for pencil, ink, marker and watercolour, 250g/sqm, 21×29.7cm

Some time ago, I hosted a Halloween party where two guys showed up as Mummies.

Upon arrival, they simply wrapped a lot of toilet paper they had brought with them around themselves and wore John Lennon styled round glasses.

I  really appreciated the maximum impact of their costume despite its simplicity and nominated them the best dressed Halloweeners of the evening.

Quite a shame I did not capture them in a picture as evidence… but maybe Mummies are not meant to be ‘captured’ anyways.

Aaaand Jump! – Indy Grab

Last Friday’s #colour_collective colour Dark Sky Blue reminded me of cold Winter days in the snowy mountains and this is exactly where I took the scene:

‘Aaaand Jump!’: #colour_collective colour Dark Sky Blue
‘Aaaand Jump!’: #colour_collective colour Dark Sky Blue: pencil 3B & 4B, black pigment liner 0.1, frisket, watercolours, mixed media paper made from 90% bamboo fibre and 10% rag, 24cmx32cm, 265 g/sqm

DarkSkyBlueAlthough Autumn has become a little more mild in temperature as of late, the previous days did give a strong reminder that Winter is really just around the corner.

Being accustomed to subtropical climate, Winter can be hard on me.

But, I have found a way to overcome Winter blues by escaping to above cloud and fog level to the mountain tops.

Activity in fresh air activates circulation, the sun’s rays support vitamin D production and uplift the spirit too, and the high amount of negative ions in the snow and mountains neutralise the body’s energy field.

Not only fun, but also the ultimate immune system boost, I’d say.

🙂

Next week’s colour for #colour_collective is Apricot.
