Best Friends

Another really quick one for Friday night’s #colour_collective colour Jade.

I was running late with this illustration as I am also busy with #inktober, #AnimalAlphabets (on Twitter), and am preparing for NaNoWriMo.

The thing is, with help of #inktober, I am trying to overcome a writer’s block. It became strange to me that as soon as I ventured to write a story, I simply couldn’t. Whatever idea may have popped up in my mind, by the time I had pen and paper ready (even if it was a matter of seconds) I went blank.

The only other time I’ve ever experienced going blank was during some exams at uni. While the explanation for why I was going blank at uni was clearly a fear of failing and a pressure to succeed, what was the obstacle with writing a story?

Because pondering the source of my writer’s block could take ages, I decided to throw myself into the deep end and just write!

And as Mr Jake Parker says so well: ‘Finished not perfect‘. My goal is to finish a story, not to create a perfect one.

That is why I am treating myself to #inktober. Maybe, I was biting off a bit more than I can chew, because so far, it hasn’t been easy to schedule this tight timetable. But I am sticking to it for as long as I possibly can.

You can follow my #inktober drawings daily on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Have a good night, a relaxed weekend and a great new week’s start!

Late #colour_collective – Myrtle Green #illo_advent day 11 – At the Fireplace

Myrtle_Green

Entering the hex code for Myrtle Green into Photoshop is definitely easier than trying to mix the colour with the available ones in my colour palette mainly consisting of Yellow, Cyan and Magenta.

Unlike what I expected, I do like the simplicity of the outcome of this one.

But, this will be my last #colour_collective contribution for 2015.

Every artist needs a break now and then in order to ‘fill the well’ – as Julia Cameron in her book *’The Artist’s Way’ puts it so nicely – so now it is time to fill mine.

And, in case you are still looking for Christmas presents, I’ve just set up a teeny tiny shop at Society6 with currently two of my works: available are prints of my blue/yellow ‘French bulldog‘ painting (acrylic on canvas) and ‘Fascination‘ painting (water-colour on mixed media paper).

Link to the shop: http://www.society6.com/babybluesnowflake

More is to follow in 2016.

Last but not least, a huge big thank you to all my followers and visitors to this blog for viewing, liking, commenting on and sharing my artwork. Your support and encouragement is very much appreciated and I plan to be back with a lot more **’one baby step at a time’.

May you all experience a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

*A highly recommended read!

#colour_collective & #illo_advent day 4 – Poinsettia

Cadmium_Red

With all the Poinsettia plants currently everywhere, it was kind of inviting itself onto the ‘canvas’ with #colour_collective’s colour Cadmium Red.

I really had fun drawing and colouring in this one. It happened so easily.

I am not sure if I should dare to try to make the wool strand red, too, worried of ruining it with an unsteady brush stroke- we’ll see – for now this needs to suffice – as I ran out of time for #colour_collective’s 19:30+1 posting time.

Next week’s colour for #colour_collective is yet to be announced.

Or maybe consider joining #illo_advent that was also launched by @PennyNevilleLee on Twitter.

Wishing all a peaceful weekend.

Under The Silvery Sky

For this evening’s #colour_collective colour Silver, I was inspired by the current silvery sky and the first few snowflakes that silently floated down onto the streets a few days back.

SilverThere is something quite magical about first snow.

I have observed myself and others returning to a childlike state of being when these leight-weighted, celestial dancers manifest from the sky.

Any thoughts that might have been troubling the mind fade away in admiration of these architectural miracles.

In their presence, time seems to stand still and – even if just for a mere moment – much of the ongoing chatter within the mind simply ceases.

Wishing all a lovely and mind-chatter free weekend!

Halloween!

Today was an assembly of #inktober, #colour_collective’s colour Apricot and #HallowDoodle’s Werewolf.

Still at the Museum

For last Friday’s #colour_collective colour Russian Violet, I decided to do a sequel of the museum scene.

I used gouache for the Rothko inspired ‘expressionist museum painting’ as the colours are more opaque and intense than watercolours.

Russian_VioletViolet was never really a favoured colour of mine, quite to the contrary.

It is a colour I still prefer to avoid. However, meanwhile I do feel differently with other Violet shades like Lavender, Lilac or any type of Violet that has a lot of Red in it.

Some time ago, I had a coat in Violet that I mainly bought for the multi-coloured lining in Orange, Yellow, and Green squared shapes. I adored the lining!

Teamed with say, a strong green or red shawl I was able to make it work for me and made my peace with the coat’s colour.

Generally, Violet on its own makes me not only look rather dull and tired but also makes me feel rather dull and tired.

So coming up with a theme for this #colour_collective colour was a challenge as even thinking about it made me feel rather dull and tired too – or wait – maybe it was really just due to another overly action packed week!

Next week’s colour for #colour_collective is Indian Red 🙂

Any theme, any medium, anyone. Post together Fri 19:30 GMT+1. Just use the #colour_collective hashtag on Twitter.  For more information see @Clr_Collective and @PennyNevilleLee (#colour_collective creator) and do check out the wonderful illustrations that were posted so far.

Wishing all a lovely week ahead!

May all the beings in all the worlds be happy!

First Love

First Love with a pinch of Rose Tyrien for last Friday’s #colour_collective.

‘First Love’: #colour_collective colour Rose Tyrien

Rose TyrienUpon researching Rose Tyrien, one of the first things to find online was the Hermès Birkin bag from the 2011 Spring/Summer Candy Bi-Colored Collection.

Viewing images where the Rose Tryien Birkin is placed next to a Hermès Orange packaging not only reminded me of how Yves Saint Laurent also liked to use these rich colours in combination, but it also took me on a mental journey to India, the queen of vibrant colour combinations.

I do adore combinations such as Orange/HotPink as well as Peacock Blue/Emerald Green or maybe even Emerald/HotPink – all teamed with Gold, of course.

Next week’s colour for #colour_collective is Cadmium Yellow.

Wishing all a lovely Sunday and a good start into the week!

‘It’s been a long day’ – including creative process

Not having much time to invest in last Friday’s #colour_collective Duck Egg Green I took the scene inside.

‘It's been a long day’: #colour_collective colour Duck Egg Green

Also, because the past week was busy, the theme turned out to be a reflection of my own personal end-week exhaustion.

Besides, when I thought of the activities the kids and their pets were engaged in the past few weeks: from practicing the ‘Handstand’ (post: 23/08/2015)  to ‘Tree House’ climbing activities (post from: 29/08/2015) to a ‘Last splash before sunset’ (post: 05/09/2015) to staying up late into the night around a campfire in ‘Fascination’ (post: 12/09/2015) with the star-filled night sky – who would not be tired?

As for the creative process:

DuckEggGreenIn all the business, I kept the colour in the back of my mind – trying to find inspiration.

However, Duck Egg Green proved to be more of a challenge than I originally expected.

It was not an easy colour to research as there are many variations of it and mixing the tone with water colours also proved to be a challenge.

Finally, while days passed by mercilessly, ideas were stubbornly staying away.

It was Thursday night when I lay in bed – exhausted.

Then, in that split moment of still being awake and just before falling asleep I imagined how silly we can sometimes look while sleeping.

There was the idea – and with it came some much-needed deep sleep.

Next week’s colour for #colour_collective is Rose Tyrien.
