Old English Sheepdog

The reason I decided to join #animalmarch on Twitter was to get some extensive animal sketching training, mainly to develop Archi and Medes a bit further.

But, for some reason, I was inspired to do a digital sketch of an Old English Sheepdog today instead.

Theoretically, you can expect a daily animal sketch on this blog during the month of March – I’ll do my best to stick to a daily sketch.

If you have an animal in mind that you would like to see me sketch, please feel free to leave a suggestion in the comments below.

Old English Sheepdog for day 1 of #animalmarch

While sketching this, I remembered that way back in time when I was still really teeny tiny (ok, maybe I was just tiny) and living in Melbourne we had a stray dog (Old English Sheepdog) hop into our car at a parking lot.

This dog did not want to leave. And so we took it home. It was an Old English Sheepdog – sweet and friendly – and became our companion for a couple of weeks.

Then, the dog disappeared as mysteriously as it appeared in our lives. Maybe to bring joy to another little family or return to the one it took a short vacation from?

I guess, we’ll never know, mysterious soul indeed.

Late #colour_collective – Myrtle Green #illo_advent day 11 – At the Fireplace

'At the Fireplace' for #colour_collective's Myrtle Green and #illo_advent day 11
‘At the Fireplace’ for #colour_collective’s Myrtle Green and #illo_advent: black pigment liner 0.1, mixed media paper made from 90% bamboo fibre and 10% rag, 24cmx32cm, 265g/sqm, Photoshop

Myrtle_Green

Entering the hex code for Myrtle Green into Photoshop is definitely easier than trying to mix the colour with the available ones in my colour palette mainly consisting of Yellow, Cyan and Magenta.

Unlike what I expected, I do like the simplicity of the outcome of this one.

But, this will be my last #colour_collective contribution for 2015.

Every artist needs a break now and then in order to ‘fill the well’ – as Julia Cameron in her book *’The Artist’s Way’ puts it so nicely – so now it is time to fill mine.

And, in case you are still looking for Christmas presents, I’ve just set up a teeny tiny shop at Society6 with currently two of my works: available are prints of my blue/yellow ‘French bulldog‘ painting (acrylic on canvas) and ‘Fascination‘ painting (water-colour on mixed media paper).

Link to the shop: http://www.society6.com/babybluesnowflake

More is to follow in 2016.

Last but not least, a huge big thank you to all my followers and visitors to this blog for viewing, liking, commenting on and sharing my artwork. Your support and encouragement is very much appreciated and I plan to be back with a lot more **’one baby step at a time’.

May you all experience a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

*A highly recommended read!

At the Museum

For last Friday’s #colour_collective colour Cadmium Yellow I decided to create a scene in a museum.

I used gouache for the two ‘museum paintings’ as the colours were brighter and more opaque and intense than watercolours:

‘At the Museum’: #colour_collective colour Cadmium Yellow: pencil 3B & 4B, black, grey pigment liner 0.1, frisket, white pigment ink liner, watercolours, gouache, mixed media paper made from 90% bamboo fibre and 10% rag, 24cmx32cm, 265 g/sqm

Next week’s colour for #colour_collective is Russian Violet – this will be an interesting week!

Any theme, any medium, anyone. Post together Fri 19:30 GMT+1. Just use the #colour_collective hashtag on Twitter.  For more information see @Clr_Collective and @PennyNevilleLee (#colour_collective creator) and do check out the wonderful illustrations that were posted so far.

Wishing all a lovely Sunday!

Under the stars

The #colour_collective colour for last night was ‘Aubergine’.

‘Under the stars’: #colour_collective colour: Aubergine
‘Under the stars’, #colour_collective colour Aubergine: pencil 4B, black pigment liner 0.1, watercolours, mixed media paper made from 90% bamboo fibre and 10% rag, 24cmx32cm, 265 g/sqm

It was quite a challenge to not think of aubergines/eggplants and focus on using the actual colour for something entirely different.

So I brooded, sketched, did not like, brooded some more, sketched some more and still did not like.

Only by mid week, I kind of began to see a night setting in my head (other than aubergines) in different locations like at the beach, viewing a city skyline, walking over a bridge, a path with lanterns, with the kids, without the kids, with just one of them, with them all, with the dog and without the dog.

I sketched some more but was never happy with the results.

Then finally – Friday – the clock was ticking and I decided to sit down and just officially start without knowing what to do in ‘Aubergine’.

I started off with the first three lines, which made the hills.

Then I sketched the boy, then the path, then I thought ‘let’s give him Archi to walk with’.

Then I gave it a critical look and went from heart to head.

‘Meh’, I thought, and grabbed for my soft kneaded eraser.

,Stop it right there!’, rushed a thought through my mind. ‘Finish what you started and if you don’t like it, well, then you start a new one, but finish it!’

So I did and I was happy.

Intuition, an inner resonance that can only be noticed when the mind becomes still.

Wishing everybody a lovely weekend!

Archi & Medes for #colour_collective

I could not finish ‘Archi & Medes’ in time for last Friday’s #colour_collective, but I certainly did not want to leave the two unfinished:

Archi & Medes und the Sagittarius full moon
#colour_collective, colour: Lamp Black. ‘Archi & Medes under the Sagittarius full moon’: pencil 4B, black pigment liner 0.1, liquid frisket, water colour, rough water colour paper 17x24cm 450 g/sqm

Can you find the Sagittarius star constellation?

Next week’s colour is Mint. Any theme, any medium, anyone. Post together Fri 19:30 GMT+1. Just use the #colour_collective hashtag on Twitter. For more information see @PennyNevilleLee (#colour_collective creator) and do check out the wonderful illustrations that were posted so far.

A lovely week ahead to everyone!

2015 – a whole lot of ‘news’

2015 is starting off with a whole lot of ‘news’. New job, new people, new clothes, new flat, new studio, new and improved habits, new things to learn, new colours, new styles, new insights, new ideas.

Interestingly, internally it’s calm waters, at least, so far.

One of the tricky things in life, regardless whether we are going through difficulties or pleasantly exciting times is: to keep equanimity of mind and to stay focused on ones goals.

It’s so easy to waver. Wavering seems to be a very human characteristic, but with awareness we can gently put ourselves back on track.

So, as for 2015, January will be dedicated to moving and setting up my studio, whereas February will hopefully be the beginning of completing my art project ‘From the Old to the New Paradigm’… got so many images in my head that wish to be materialised on canvas!

In between completing my painting project and working as an editor and transpersonal life coach I wish to further develop illustrations of and (maybe) stories with the three children (whose names I haven’t given birth to, yet) including the dog named Archi and the cat named Medes.

But no matter what, a central part of my daily activities shall be meditation and yoga and a balanced diet with a moderate but efficient life – work rhythm.

Also, I shall remind myself to laugh a lot, to stay positive, to learn, to have faith, to trust, to stay focused, and – to create, create, and create some more.

With this, I say good-bye for now to retreat to an Epsom bath, to meditate and to get a good night’s rest, for tomorrow, a new flat awaits to be ‘feng shuid’ to its fullest potential!

A big and heartfelt thank you to all of you out there, which dropped by, followed, liked, commented, shared and enjoyed babyluesnowflake’s posts so far! I hope to be back soon.

Namaste
Good night – and
the sweetest of dreams

Cat Dog #comicchallenge

Today, I was very productive and did the 20 minute daily mini challenge for @Making_Comics in addition to the #inktober daily inking challenge (‘Tasty Tender Coconut’, previous post).

Task: ‘Try drawing a cat or dog, using nothing but the pen tool.’

Cat & Dog
MakingComics dot com: Challenge of the Day: Cat & Dog (I couldn’t decide which to draw, so I did both). Digital sketch using only pen tool and one layer in Sketchbook Pro.
